Ava Motion Pictures Pvt Ltd is the brainchild of Pawan Kanodia – a man who wears many hats. The successful businessman was not only a good poet by nature but also had a penchant for theatre. During tumultuous times when Bengali cinema was going through a flux and producers were unsure whether to walk into the shifting sands of Tollywood industry, Ava Motion Pictures Pvt Ltd was established by Kanodia. It was in the year 1990 that he set up his company at Wellington Square with a decided focus to contribute to the growth of Bengali cinema. Working with one of the doyens of Indian stage, Shyamanand Jalan, he got the taste for telling a good story. So when he launched his production house it was not to make profit from cinema, but to leave for the posterity a body of work that will be considered as milestones for Bengali movies.

Conceived with a passion towards art, back in the days, AVA made commercial movies that revolved around the common people – something that the prime cinema goers which was the middle class population, could relate to. Now, AVA’s canvas is engraved with various subjects that have message for the society and an element of entertainment in general.
AVA has witnessed & stood strong against the changing times. It believed in the Tollywood industry when it was on the brink of collapsing. It adapted itself to changes even though Bengali cinema hardly made money then. The Bengali middle class, the complexities of the society, the rise of the common man became popular themes at that point of time.
Post 2000 as the film industry headed into a new millennium, AVA also changed its focus from the regular staple diet to a la carte. Having seen the maturity of the Bengali audience in the new millennium, AVA has immense exposure and experience up its sleeves.
Since their first movie Thikana in 1991, featuring Debasree Roy, Dipankar De, Arjun Chakraborty and Moon Moon Sen among others, to movies like Asamapto and Tope, the house has released many such accomplishments under its banner.
